England's players believe the alterations to one-day crickets rules are playing into the Black Caps captain's hands.
A maximum of four players are allowed outside the circle in non-power play situations, one less than previously.
England batsman Jonathan Trott, who finished unbeaten on 65 in the second ODI win in Napier, says Brendon McCullum is taking full advantage of it.
"It makes it easier for McCullum especially because he knows he just has to chip it over the ring. More calculating players like ourselves, it's more of an option but we've got to practice our options a bit more."
Both sides arrive in Auckland today in preparation for the third and deciding game on Saturday.
