As one New Zealand test cricketer exits after this series against Australia, a 269th will debut tomorrow at the Basin Reserve.
Brendon McCullum has spoken to the media as he prepares to become the first of 2809 test cricketers to play 100 consecutive tests from debut.
He has named a side which will include the awarding of a cap to Henry Nicholls as Ross Taylor continues to recover from a side strain, and the returns of Corey Anderson in place of the injured Mitchell Santner, as well as Mark Craig for Neil Wagner.
McCullum is the third New Zealand cricketer to play 100 tests after Stephen Fleming and Daniel Vettori.
He reflected on his time wearing the same black cap after debuting in it against South Africa at Hamilton in 2004.
