KEY POINTS:
New Zealand Cricket has appointed former international Dayle Hadlee as their specialist bowling coach as a major revamp of their high performance programme continues.
Hadlee had previously been in charge of NZC's Academy programme at Lincoln, near Christchurch, before it was decentralised by high performance manager Ric Charlesworth.
As part of his brief Hadlee, who has been mentoring New Zealand's pace bowlers during the series with Sri Lanka, will be responsible for establishing a network of specialist bowling coaches throughout the country.
New Zealand women's coach Steve Jenkin has been handed the added responsibility of overseeing player development by co-ordinating case management meetings for specifically targeted athletes.
The appointments were announced a day after NZC chief executive Martin Snedden revealed he was leaving in May to head Rugby New Zealand 2011, the company overseeing the running of the 2011 World Cup.
Charlesworth, the former Australian national hockey coach, decentralised the academy, which was run by Hadlee for 11 years, in a move to put more emphasis on coaching on major associations. He also favours contracting players on the verge of international status and putting more resources into their development.
Charlesworth said there was a need to focus on the next group of players just below the Black Caps and concentrate on developing them to bridge the gulf between the first-class level in New Zealand and the international game.
Meanwhile, it is unsure what, if any, role high performance coach Ashley Ross will perform in the new set-up.
