Batsman Peter Fulton makes a return to international cricket after being named in the 12-man New Zealand squad for the three-match one-day series against Bangladesh beginning next week.
Released from the squad that lost the Chappell-Hadlee series against Australia are batsman Lou Vincent, wicketkeeper Gareth Hopkins and bowler Michael Mason.
New Zealand coach John Bracewell said today the selection panel felt it was important to retain the bulk of the team from the recent series in South Africa and Australia to give them the opportunity to build on the experience of those tours and show the talent they have.
"Some players have been released to allow them to return to their provincial teams and earn quality playing time in the State Shield, and put pressure on those in the squad."
Bracewell said Fulton, who missed the two tours because of knee surgery, had shown good form in the State Championship.
"He has proved in the past he can translate a high standard of performance at domestic level to the international game."
The first one-dayer against Bangladesh will be in Auckland on December 26, with the others at McLean Park on December 28 and in Queenstown on December 31.
