The Black Caps' performance against India on the third day of the first cricket test has left the New Zealand team trailing behind.
New Zealand is 41 for one in their second innings, after being rolled for 159 in their first turn at bat, when James Franklin top scored with 43.
They still require a further 238 runs to make India bat a second time.
Cricket commentator Brian Waddle said Frankin's batting was the one bright spot in the game, played in difficult conditions.
"Franklin's technique of playing the ball later off the back foot worked perfectly and he was seldom troubled. Having been given an international life line at number six, it was important innings for the Wellington left hander, who looked composed and organised."
