KEY POINTS:
Daniel Vettori will captain both the New Zealand test and one-day teams, Cricket New Zealand (NZC) announced today.
It prompted longtime skipper Stephen Fleming to announce his retirement from the one-day game, and the upcoming summer would probably his last in test cricket as well, he said.
"The selectors are looking to the future and have recommended that Daniel assume captaincy of the test team as well as the one-day team," NZC chief executive Justin Vaughan said in a statement today.
"Daniel has demonstrated real leadership during his time with the Black Caps, and through his occasional performances as one-day captain has shown he is ready to take over captaincy of the Black Caps in all forms of the game."
Vettori's elevation sees him captain all three NZ teams - he is leading the Twenty20 side in South Africa at present.
