KEY POINTS:
New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming has been approached to be part of the breakaway Indian Cricket League (ICL), according to an Australian newspaper report.
The Australian said Fleming was considering his position and may retire from the international game to take up the lucrative offer.
The newspaper said Fleming was being sought to captain one of the six proposed teams on a three-year deal believed to be worth more than $A500,000 ($NZ556,111) a year.
It said Australian greats Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath were also negotiating with ICL, with Warne believed to be in line for almost $A2 million over three years if an agreement can be reached.
Brian Lara became ICL's first major signing this week for $A500,000 a year.
Fleming, 34, is playing county cricket in England.
He retired from one-day cricket after the World Cup but is due to lead the New Zealand test team to South Africa in late October and November, when the first ICL Twenty20 tournament is due to be played.
Fleming is New Zealand's leading test runscorer with 6620 at an average of 39.64 from 104 tests. He has been captain in 80 of those matches.
The league proposes to field six teams -- each featuring four international players, two Indian stars and eight up-and-comers -- playing up to eight Twenty20 matches at three Indian venues over a month.
