KEY POINTS:
England levelled the test cricket series against New Zealand at 1-1 by winning the second match by an emphatic margin of 126 runs at the Basin Reserve here today.
It was England's first success abroad in nine tests since they won the final test against India in Mumbai in March, 2006.
Resuming this morning on 242 for six chasing 438 for victory, New Zealand were dismissed for 311 30 minutes before lunch despite a bold 85 from Brendon McCullum.
Captain Daniel Vettori lasted just six balls this morning before sparring a delivery from Ryan Sidebottom to Alastair Cook at third slip to depart without scoring.
Kyle Mills added 13 before he was leg before wicket to Sidebottom, the swing bowler's fifth scalp of the innings.
Brendon McCullum, on 43 overnight, ticked off his eighth test half- century off 50 balls but lacked support.
Mark Gillespie scored nine in 52 minutes at the crease before being caught by wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose off James Anderson.
With tailender Chris Martin for company, McCullum, chose to take on Monty Panesar after blocking the first two balls of the spinner's over.
He then tried to clear the long on boundary only to be caught by Sidebottom after hitting nine boundaries and two sixes in his innings.
England, who lost the first test in Hamilton by 189 runs, dominated the match since being asked to bat first last Thursday.
The tourists responded by scoring 342 on the back of 102 by Ambrose, 65 from Paul Collingwood and 44 from Cook.
New Zealand's reply of 198 was dominated by recalled fast bowler James Anderson, who took five for 73.
With a first innings lead of 144, England then built their advantage by making 293 in their second innings.
Needing to complete a record fourth innings runchase to win the match and secure the three-match series, New Zealand were never realistically in the hunt.
Ross Taylor's 55, his second half-century of the match, was the highlight of New Zealand's response before McCullum batted positively.
Sidebottom, who took his first 10-wicket haul, including a hat-trick, in the first test, finished with figures of five for 105, his fourth five-wicket bag in 12 tests.
Ambrose was named man of the match in recognition of his century and four catches.
The third test starts in Napier on Saturday.
