KEY POINTS:
New Zealand coach John Bracewell has been approached to return to his former English county Gloucestershire.
Bracewell enjoyed considerable one-day success at the county from 1998 to 2003, guiding Gloucestershire to five titles, including a remarkable three in 2000, after more than 20 years without any silverware.
The county have sacked their coach of the last four seasons, Mark Alleyne, who had been Gloucestershire captain under former test all rounder Bracewell.
They are seeking a director of cricket, with overseeing responsibilities including Academy and second XI cricket.
It is understood Gloucestershire are prepared to make an interim appointment for this year in a bid to get the right man for the job long term.
Bracewell, 49, is contracted to New Zealand Cricket until May next year. He confirmed last night he had been sounded out by Gloucestershire but insisted he would fulfil his contract with the national side. "I am totally committed to the Black Caps until my contract concludes," Bracewell said.
"I have had an approach from Gloucestershire but there's a lot of water to flow under the bridge before I can make a decision on my future."
Bracewell took charge of the New Zealand team from 2004, and will have completed six years with the side, during which time he has also been a member of the selection panel.
