Former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond is being targeted as a possible replacement for Damien Wright as New Zealand bowling coach.
Wright announced yesterday he is stepping down from the position to be closer to his sick mother and young family, and New Zealand Cricket director of cricket John Buchanan said they will approach Bond, Newstalk ZB reported.
"We'll go through the advertising process," Buchanan said. "We're aware that Damien Wright has to move on so we'll go through that process, but obviously someone like Shane Bond presents as one of the candidates that we're very interested in talking with.
"Obviously we're very disappointed to lose a quality coach like Damien but can totally understand his reasons for having to step away from the job."
Bond was recently sounded out for the vacant Canterbury coaching position but said he wasn't interested, citing his work that includes bowling coaching with NZC and Central Districts. He has worked with the likes of Doug Bracewell, Adam Milne and Hamish Bennett and would be a popular choice.
