KEY POINTS:
The Black Caps have removed a significant chunk of the West Indies' batting lineup during the first session on day four of the first test in Dunedin today.
After starting the day 39 without loss, the West Indies were 153-4 nearing the end of the first session in reply to New Zealand's first innings total of 365, with Brendan Nash on 16 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul on 14.
Opener Sewnarine Chattergoon was first to go for the Windies, pulling a Kyle Mills delivery straight to Iain O'Brien at square leg for 13.
Mills struck again shortly after when Ramnaresh Sarwan played a loose drive outside off stump and edged it to Brendom McCullum for 8.
West Indies skipper Chris Gayle inflicted most of the damage on the Black Caps bowlers, moving to 74 off just 103 balls before top-edging an Iain O'Brien delivery to James Franklin at fine leg.
Daniel Vettori then entered the attack with almost immediate effect, the New Zealand captain dismissing Xavier Marshall for 20 after a referral to the third umpire confirmed Marshall had edged the ball to Jesse Ryder at short leg.
The tourists negotiated 14 overs before the close of play yesterday after bowling the Black Caps out for 365.
Daniel Flynn topscored for New Zealand with 95 on Thursday while Jesse Ryder advanced from 54 to 89 before he fell to paceman Daren Powell today.
The second day was washed out yesterday without a ball being bowled.
