Australia again dispatched New Zealand with contemptuous ease at the Adelaide Oval today, winning the second cricket test by 213 runs, six balls after lunch on the final day.
New Zealand's lower order showed some fight, notably top scorer Daniel Vettori, but the die was cast on another heavy defeat long before he strode to the wicket early today.
The tourists lost Jacob Oram for 40 and Brendon McCullum for 36 within four overs today to extinguish any glimmer of hope New Zealand harboured of salvaging a draw, having resumed at 149 for five in pursuit of a near impossible 464.
Vettori and James Franklin added 46 for the eighth wicket to keep the Australians at bay, but the end was nigh when Vettori was caught by Jason Gillespie off the final ball off the morning session for 59.
He scored seven fours in his 78-ball stay before spinner Darren Lehmann snared his second scalp.
Shane Warne ended the game when Chris Martin was caught in close by Ricky Ponting for two, ending another disappointing Black Caps innings for 250.
Paul Wiseman was not out 15.
Australia clean swept the Trans-Tasman Trophy series 2-0 after they won the first test by an innings and 156 runs at the Gabba in Brisbane last week.
