Cricket: Anxious wait for contract hopefuls

New Zealand Cricket's 20 contracted players are set to be named around midday.

Mathew Sinclair's omission last season surprised many and given that he is the current first class batsman of the year, there is likely to be widespread criticism if he misses out and goes overseas.

With Chris Cairns and Chris Harris now out of the picture, allrounder spots are up for grabs, while the top order batting is the other key area of interest.

Lou Vincent is almost certain to get a contract, but considering his axing from the test team last summer it may not be as lucrative as he may like.

Vincent says he would like to think he will definitely get a contract but considering changes in the environment he can not be sure.

Vincent says he will be talking with Black Caps coach John Bracewell next week to ensure him he is willing to bat anywhere in the test order, including opening.
