New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming has won the toss and elected to bat against the West Indies in the opening game of the five match one-day cricket series.
Jeetan Patel has been named the Black Caps super-sub with batsman Lou Vincent dropping out of the squad for the fixture here at Westpac Stadium.
Paceman Michael Mason was included and will front for his first one-day international in almost two years.
The West Indies will be without key allrounder Dwayne Bravo who failed to recover from a side strain suffered in the tour opening Twenty20 match in Auckland on Thursday which New Zealand won in a bowl off.
