The Black Caps have lost their first game of the T20 World Cup against Afghanistan by 84 runs.
Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to field. Afghanistan went on to finish their 20 overs at 159-6, led by 80 from opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
The Black Caps’ run chase got off to a dismal start, with Finn Allen dismissed wth the first ball of the innings.
Afghanistan consistently picked up wickets to have the Black Caps seven down after 10 overs. They didn’t waste time in cleaning up the tail, ultimately dismissing the Black Caps for 75.
Glenn Phillips top-scored for the Black Caps with 18, with Matt Henry [12] the only other batsman to his double figures. Extras [10] was the team’s third-highest scorer.
