Promising youngsters Ben Wheeler and Mitchell Santner have starred for the New Zealand XI on day two of their first-class match against Somerset.
23-year old paceman Wheeler shone early in the day with a devastating display of quick bowling, before all-rounder Santner showed his abilities with the bat to give the New Zealanders an advantage heading into day three overnight.
Wheeler was a key reason to get New Zealand in that spot early in the day, being the most destructive of the New Zealand attack as he took apart the Somerset top order, finishing with sublime figures of 5 for 18. Somerset were dismissed for 204, 33 runs behind on the first innings after the NZ XI had added a further 35 runs to their overnight tally, skipper BJ Watling top-scoring with 65.
New Zealand fared better on the Somerset County Cricket Ground wicket, ending the day at 149 for 3 with a lead of 182.
Although the visitors lost Hamish Rutherford early, 57 from Tom Latham was added to by Santner's unbeaten 70 as they put on 124 for the second wicket.
