Neil Wagner took two wickets from the final two balls of the day to put Otago well in control at the halfway point of their Plunket Shield match against Canterbury today.
Resuming on 63 without loss after bowling out the Wizards for 297 yesterday in Rangiora, Otago's batsmen were able to eke out an 86-run first innings lead, thanks to a terrific opening stand between Aaron Redmond and Hamish Rutherford.
But that moderate advantage took on a considerably different look after Otago were able to have a crack at the Canterbury top order for three overs before stumps.
After successfully negotiating the first over from Wagner, Mark Craig picked up the second first class wicket of his debut after trapping George Worker in front for a duck.
Wagner then followed the lead of his 21-year-old teammate, bowling night-watchman Will Londsdale with his penultimate delivery before getting Shanan Stewart LBW the very next ball.
