Former New Zealand cricket captain Daniel Vettori has flown home from India to have his injured right knee assessed by a specialist.
Vettori, captain of Twenty20 franchise the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, has been troubled by the injury that first came to light in a World Cup match against Pakistan in March and was forced to sit out Bangalore's last two matches.
Bangalore's stand-in captain Virat Kohli said the team, who lead the IPL table with two matches in the regular season to play, would wait for news on Vettori's fitness.
"He's (Vettori) gone back home to see his surgeon, someone he generally consults," Kohli told reporters in India.
"He will try to get back and be fit for the upcoming games. We will just have to wait and watch what happens with that."
