Auckland opener Glenn Phillips smashed an 84-ball century but it wasn't enough for New Zealand's under 19 cricket team to maintain their unbeaten run at their tri-nations tournament in Dubai last night.
Having beaten Australia and Pakistan in their first two games, New Zealand came unstuck second time around against the Aussies, losing by five wickets.
New Zealand made 281 for nine, of which Phillips made 105, with six sixes. He shared a 148-run stand for the first wicket with Canterbury's Dan Stanley, who made 56.
The only other notable contribution was 30 from Central Districts' Josh Clarkson.
Australia got to 284 for five in 48 overs, on the back of 103 from captain Sam Harper, off 84 balls, sharing a 183-run third wicket stand with Patrick Page, who made 99.
Otago bowler Nathan Smith took four for 51.
