Former Black Caps skipper Ross Taylor has failed to fire in his return to cricket after a self-imposed break from the game.
Taylor returned to action for Central Districts on the first day of their Plunket Shield match against Canterbury in Napier today.
Taylor reached four off 26 balls in a 28 minute stay at the crease before he was caught behind off the bowling of Canterbury left-armer Ryan McCone.
After 48 overs Central were 134-4.
It is Taylor's first game since scoring a century and leading the Black Caps to a test victory over Sri Lanka last November before he was replaced by Brendon McCullum as captain across all three forms of the game.
