Former test cricket umpire Steve Randell, who was jailed for sexually assaulting girls in 1999, was yesterday released on parole.
Randell, 45, who stood in an Australian record 36 tests, left Tasmania's Hayes Prison Farm after serving two years and seven months of a four-year sentence.
He was met at the prison gates by a family member and driven away.
Randell was convicted of 15 charges of indecent assault against nine girls aged 11 and 12 while he was teaching at a Catholic primary school in Burnie in 1981 and 1982.
He will remain under the supervision of a parole officer until August next year.
