KEY POINTS:
HOBART - Sri Lanka's pace attack will be a man short today in the second Test against Australia with Farveez Maharoof off the field because of a foot injury.
Australia have resumed this morning on day two at Bellerive Oval on 3-329.
The injury to Maharoof, who took 0-82 off 23 overs on a flat pitch yesterday, heaps extra pressure on his new-ball partner Lasith Malinga and Dilhara Fernando to make good use of the second new ball this morning.
Adding to the touring team's woes, Fernando is carrying an ankle injury.
Sri Lanka's trump card, off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan (1-62), dismissed Australian captain Ricky Ponting for 31 yesterday and needs a further six wickets to break Shane Warne's world record of 708 Test wickets.
"Maharoof has stress fractures of his left foot," a Sri Lankan team spokesman said today.
"He may not bowl or field for the rest of the game. He had a scan and the doctor said that would be best although he may bat if required."
Australia lead the two-match series 1-0.
