Cricket: Shane Bond called in as England bowling coach

Sixteen years after starring with the ball on Australian soil, Shane Bond has been summoned by England to repeat the dose as a coach.

Former Black Caps speedster Bond has been signed on as fast bowling consultant for the first two Tests of the Ashes series in Australia.

In a statement, the England and Wales Cricket Board says Bond will be on hand for the series opener in Brisbane from November 23, followed by the day-night Test in Adelaide.

The 42-year-old will then finish to take up a domestic coaching post with the Brisbane Heat in the Twenty20 Big Bash.

It's another notable addition to Bond's coaching CV, having enjoyed enormous success as New Zealand fast bowling coach from 2012 to 2015.

His role in the development of Test seamers Trent Boult and Tim Southee was widely acclaimed, along with New Zealand's run to the World Cup final.

He is currently head coach of the New Zealand A team on their tour of India.

Bond's injury-plagued international career hit an early peak in the 2001-02 one- day international tri-series in Australia, when he claimed 21 wickets and was named player of the tournament.

He enjoyed particular success against the home nation, something England will look to tap into.
