Jesse Ryder has made an impressive start to the English domestic season but it wasn't with the bat.
The former Black Cap took 5-43 as his Essex side bowled out Kent for 193 on the opening day of their County Championship Division Two match.
Ryder didn't have as much luck with the bat however making just 12 as Essex reached 67 for six at stumps.
Elsewhere Auckland's Craig Cachopa made eight as Sussex reached 345 all out against Worcestershire while Martin Guptill spent a day in the field, taking the catch of century maker Alviro Petersen as Lancashire were 298 for 8 against Derbyshire.
