New Zealand will have to save the cricket test against South Africa without injured skipper Ross Taylor, who will undergo surgery today on his broken arm.
Taylor was struck on the left forearm and broke his ulna while batting against South Africa yesterday and had to retire hurt on 18. X-rays confirmed a break and, after seeking the opinion of the orthopaedic surgeon, it was decided surgery was the best course of action.
"The specialist confirmed that the best management for the fracture of his left ulna would be to undergo surgery,'' New Zealand Cricket medical director Ian Murphy said.
"This will give him the best opportunity to recover with the actual return date determined by the speed of his recovery from surgery.
"It is not anticipated he will be able to play within the next four weeks but this will depend on how quickly the injury has healed and Ross's level of comfort.''
