The first New Zealander to take a test hat-trick has died.
Former New Zealand and Otago spinner Peter Petherick died in Perth on Sunday. He was 72.
Petherick was aged 34 when he achieved his feat on debut against Pakistan in Lahore in 1976. He dismissed Javed Miandad, Wasim Raja and Intikhab Alam, caught by a diving Geoff Howarth close in to complete the hat-trick.
Petherick was only the second bowler to take a test hat-trick on debut, after England's Maurice Allom. Australian Damien Fleming has since managed the feat.
Only one of Petherick's six tests was played at home. He took 16 wickets in those matches.
