Northern Districts overwhelmed Otago by nine wickets to notch their second straight win in a domestic Twenty20 cricket championship match at Oamaru today.

Otago, all out after 20 overs, were put to the sword while trying to defend an uncompetitive total of 132.

Northern Districts lost Australian import David Warner with seven runs on the board but that only brought Brad Hodge to the crease.

The former Australian international and Brad Wilson, who set up their side's win in the last round against Auckland, had the Otago fielders chasing leather in an unbeaten partnership which hauled in 127 runs.

Wilson, 58 not out, needed just 30 balls and 42 minutes to reach his half century, hitting five boundaries and three sixes along the way as the pair knocked off a hundred runs in 62 balls.

Hodge, content to let Wilson set the pace until then, reached his 50 as he took Otago fast bowlers Ian Butler and Neil Wagner on and peppered the boundary with five fours and clubbing a six one-handed in his unbeaten 68.

Earlier, Otago self-destructed against a capable Northern Districts attack in which Graeme Aldride was the pick, taking three wickets for 24 runs.

After losing opener Hamish Rutherford with seven runs on the board, Otago were quickly into damage control as they found themselves 65 for six by the 12th over.

Butler and Derek de Boorder combined for a seventh wicket stand of 50 but once de Boorder was run out by a brilliant throw to the opposite end by Warner, fielding at gully, the Otago innings folded meekly.

Otago are winless after two games while Northern have eight points from two wins and a loss.
