The Northern Knights' hopes of advancing to the next stage at the T20 Champions League have been dealt an all but fatal blow.
The Knights crashed to a 120-run loss at the hands of Kings XI Punjab in their penultimate group game in Mohali.
Kings XI batted first and made a mammoth 215 off their 20 overs thanks largely to 102-run opening stand by Virender Sehwag (52) and Manan Vohra (65).
The Knights' seam duo of Trent Boult and Tim Southee were ineffective against the Indian outfit, with both going wicketless and leaking more than 10 runs an over.
In response, the Knights got off to a promising start and were 58-1 when opener Kane Williamson fell for 20. From there things went downhill rapidly. The Knights middle and lower order capitulated, losing 8 wickets for 37 runs to be all out for a paltry 95.
