KEY POINTS:
The West Indies spent a long and unrewarding day in the field on the first day of their four-day cricket match against Auckland province on Friday.
The home team took the opportunity to bat first after winning the toss and, led by former New Zealand batsman Richard Jones who made an unbeaten 186, reached 359 for two by stumps at Eden Park.
The West Indies' bowlers had a hard workout on a pitch on which more than 900 runs were scored for the loss of 12 wickets in a recent provincial match. Fidel Edwards was one of two West Indies bowlers to have success, claiming 1 wicket for 90 runs from 19 overs.
The match is the only warmup the tourists will have before the first of two tests against New Zealand starting at Dunedin next Thursday.
