New Zealand Test opener Jeet Raval has unfurled an exquisite one-day century to send the West Indies to a tour match defeat in Whangarei.
Raval crafted 169 to steer a New Zealand XI to a six-wicket win with nine balls to spare at Cobham Oval, venue for the first ODI on Wednesday.
Swept 2-0 in the Test series, a new-look West Indies appeared to have done enough to win their first match on tour when they reached 288.
However, they had no answer to the well-paced knock of composed 29-year-old left-hander Raval, who was dismissed when his team were seven runs short of the target. They reached 289-4 off 48.3 overs.
Raval's score easily surpassed his previous best List A effort of 115.
