Former New Zealand international bowler Ian Butler has retired from cricket.
Butler, whose career was plagued by injuries, took 24 wickets in eight tests, 28 in 26 ODIs and 23 in 19 T20s in an international career which ran from 2001-02 to last year.
Genuinely sharp when he began his international career, problems with his back meant the 32-year-old was to be an in and out selection.
He played for Northern Districts and Otago in New Zealand first-class cricket, as well as stints at Gloucestershire, Kent and Northamptonshire in England. In 72 first-class games, Butler took 204 wickets at 30.95.
"It is time to accept that the body has had enough," Butler said today. "Sad but exciting times, hopefully the next chapter in life will be more family, friends and partner friendly."
