SYDNEY - Spinner Nathan Hauritz has taken 5-53 to guide Australia to a remarkable come-from-behind victory in the second test against Pakistan at the SCG.
Resuming on Wednesday's fourth day's play at 286 for eight, Australia were bowled out for 381 in their second innings, setting the tourists a challenging target of 176.
Pakistan were bowled out for 139 in 38 overs as Australia claimed a 36-run win to take an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Mike Hussey made 134 not out, his 11th test century, in Australia's second innings.
Hussey shared a record-breaking ninth-wicket partnership of 123 with Peter Siddle (38) in three-and-a-half hours.
Legspinner Danish Kaneria claimed 5-151 from 47.5 overs.
Pakistan's run chase began brightly before Doug Bollinger removed Imran Farhat (22) caught at mid-off.
Mitchell Johnson (3-27) was introduced in the 11th over and struck twice in three deliveries, dismissing Faisal Iqbal (7) and Salman Butt (21) caught behind.
Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin's seventh catch of the game was a blinder, diving down leg-side after an inside edge from Butt.
Hauritz also took two wickets in three balls.
The spinner clutched a brilliant return catch to his heart to dismiss Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf (19) in the second over after tea, as Hauritz collapsed on the pitch in agony.
Hauritz had medical treatment on his thumb and was mobbed by team-mates two balls later when he had Misbah-ul-Haq caught at point for a duck at 77 for five.
Johnson, who dominated test cricket in 2009 with 63 victims, also had wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal (11) caught behind.
Hauritz and Haddin combined to dismiss Mohammad Sami (2), but only after Haddin convinced skipper Ricky Ponting to ask for video referral.
No 5 batsman Umar Akmal had the chance to guide Pakistan to victory but fell for 49 for the second time in the match, holing out to mid-off from Bollinger's bowling at 133 for eight.
Kaneria was Hauritz's fourth victim at 135 for nine and Umar Gul (6) soon followed. Haddin finished with nine catches, two short of the world record of 11 held by England's Jack Russell.
The partnership of 123 between Hussey and Siddle beat the 83-run stand between Bob Massie and John Watkins for Australia's ninth wicket against Pakistan in Sydney 37 years ago.
Australia host the third test against Pakistan on January 14.
Ponting and rival skipper Yousuf agreed the dismissal of the Pakistan captain was the turning point.
"We believed that we could win the game this morning," Ponting said.
"Last night it was looking like it was going to be hard for us today.
"It's an amazing test win for us. It was a pretty special knock from Mike Hussey."
Hussey, 34, was named man of the match.
A disappointed Yousuf said: "My shot turned the game.
"Shot selection wasn't very good, especially my shot."
