Chris Gayle struck the fastest ever Twenty20 century from just 30 balls during a record-breaking innings for the Banglore Royal Challengers in the Indian Premier League overnight.
The West Indian hit 17 sixes and 13 fours on his way to an unbeaten 175 from 66 balls against the Pune Warriors. It is the the highest individual score in the Indian Premier League, breaking the record held by New Zealand's Brendon McCullum.
McCullum's previous record was an unbeaten 158 in the opening game of the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008.
Gayle's 30-ball century broke Andrew Symonds' record for the quickest Twenty20 ton after the former Australian batsman hit a 34-ball century for Kent against Middlesex in 2004.
It was Gayle's fourth century in the IPL and led the Royal Challengers to the highest ever T20 score posting 3-264. That beat Sri Lanka's 6-260 against Kenya in 2007.
