The Perth Scorchers' hopes of qualifying for the Champions League T20 semifinals are over after a 13-run defeat to Chennai Super Kings in Bangalore on Saturday night.
Perth captain Adam Voges won the toss and sent Chennai to bat first.
They made 6-155 and the Scorchers could manage just 7-142 in reply.
MS Dhoni put the Scorchers to the sword with an inspired 35 off 16 balls, which included three consecutive sixes.
Perth had bowled expertly to restrict Chennai to 4-69 after 14 overs before Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja (44 off 28) piled on 86 runs in the final six overs.
