KEY POINTS:
Former New Zealand international cricketer Chris Cairns has been suspended by his Indian Cricket League (ICL) Twenty20 team.
An ICL release said its executive board had suspended Cairns, skipper of the Chandigargh Lions, and teammate Dinesh Mongia on disciplinary grounds.
South African all-rounder Andrew Hall would replace Cairns as captain of the Lions, the ICL release said without elaborating the reasons behind the step.
The Indian Express newspaper said according to a high level source, the step was taken due to allegations of "under-performance" against the players.
The ICL is a rival to the officially sanctioned Indian Premier League.
Other New Zealanders playing in the ICL are Lou Vincent, Andre Adams, Shane Bond, Adam Parore, Chris Harris, Nathan Astle, Craig McMillan, Daryl Tuffey and Hamish Marshall.
