Cricket: Bradburn to coach Scotland

Former New Zealand international and longtime Northern Districts coach Grant Bradburn has been appointed Scotland's head coach.

The first job for the former offspinning allrounder, who played seven tests and 11 ODIs from 1990 to 2001, will be guiding Scotland at next year's World Cup to be staged in Australia and New Zealand.

Bradburn, who takes on the job from July 1, has the role until the end of 2017, which includes a trip to the world T20 in India in 2016 and the prospect of a shot at test cricket through the Intercontinental Cup.

Bradburn, who stepped down as ND coach after the 2012-13 season, has also done stints in charge of New Zealand A and the national under 19 side.

He replaces Peter Steindl, who stepped down after last year's world T20 qualifier.

''Cricket Scotland has a high-quality team of people supporting the players, with excellent systems in place," Bradburn said.

''With my experience of orchestrating successful high performance environments, I look forward to working with the players and staff at Cricket Scotland and assisting them to continue to grow and perform."
