New Zealand Cricket is considering scrapping the Boxing day test in Wellington for a one-day international in Auckland.
If confirmed, the decision is expected come under fire from the Wellington and lower North Island fans.
NZC is understood well down the track scheduling the summer programme which involves both one-dayers and tests here by Sri Lanka and then Australia, but refused to comment today on the possible relacement of the Boxing Day test at the Basin Reserve with a one-dayer at Eden Park.
Eden Park has been tentatively booked for the Boxing Day one-dayer.
Boxing Day tests have featured in Wellington for at least four seasons.
Sri Lanka will be in New Zealand over the Christmas-New Year period and the Australians later in summer.
There has been strong suggestions of a test against Australia in Queenstown, where the Pakistanis were hosted for a one-dayer last summer.
