KEY POINTS:
PERTH - Australia will be seeking history to beat India on day four of the third cricket Test at the WACA Ground.
Set 413 to win, the home side needs another 348 runs to pull off the second-highest successful run chase in history and extend their winning streak to 17 successive victories.
But much will depend on captain Ricky Ponting (24 not out) and Mike Hussey (five not out) to give their side a good start from 2-65.
Only three sides have ever successfully chased over 400 to win a Test and only the West Indies side which beat Australia at St John's in 2003 has scored more, as they posted 7-418 to beat Steve Waugh's side.
Australian coach Tim Nielsen said winning from this position would be a "pretty special thing to do", but believed the target was achievable.
"We're a long way behind so it's going to be a big effort ... to set up a platform," he said.
"Ricky and Michael need to set it up for us, but the good thing is the wicket's still in pretty good shape, the outfield's fast - we've seen that all through the game - and those conditions will stay that way.
"We need a couple of guys to be able to get big hundreds."
It was India who broke the winning run of 16 that Waugh's side had achieved up until 2001, and they again have the chance to snap Australia's streak.
India have only won four Tests in Australia, and batsman VVS Laxman said victory would be "a great moment for all of us".
Play will start at 11.30am (WDT).
