Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood says he fears for the safety of his fielders ahead of the historic day-night cricket Test against New Zealand in Adelaide.
Hazlewood has told Fairfax Media that while significant improvements have been made since the pink ball was first trialled in 2013, it will still be difficult to see the ball in the field during twilight.
"The time when the sun is setting, those fielders square of the wicket, when there's someone like Brendon McCullum batting, it's going to come pretty quickly whether you're at backward point or square leg," he said.
Hazlewood's New South Wales team trained with the pink balls on Thursday ahead of the opening round of day-night Sheffield Shield fixtures later this month, and while some struggled to face the in-form Mitchell Starc, Hazlewood said it was more a matter of skills than problems with the ball.
The day-night test, which is the third of the series against New Zealand, begins on November 27.
