Corey Anderson ruled out of tour

Corey Anderson has been ruled out of the remainder of the England cricket tour with a stress related injury to his back.

He will return to New Zealand for further assessment.

The 24-year-old suffered the injury during the first test at Lord's.

It opens the way for Mitchell Santner to play the majority of matches as a No.6 batsman and left-arm orthodox spinner in his debut series.

"Corey has been working hard to get back to full fitness for the ODI series but hasn't been able to overcome this injury," coach Mike Hesson said.

"We felt the best course of action was to send him back to New Zealand for further assessment."

Anderson was sent for a MRI scan which revealed a new bone stress-related injury to his lumbar spine.

Further investigations are required for clarification.

A replacement is yet to be named.

The injury is also likely to curtail his contract with Somerset for the latter half of the England domestic Twenty20 competition.

It continues a unfortunate run of fitness for the all-rounder who fractured a finger playing for the Mumbai Indians during the Indian Premier League before they went on to triumph.
