They were earlier forced to delete comments about the issue on Facebook after they became "attacking".
Principal Neil Sargisson wrote: "I deleted the post last night when the comments started to become personally attacking, had moved away from the theme of the original post and in my opinion, did not fit with the spirit and values I want on our school's Facebook page.
"I support people sharing their contrasting views and engaging in debate but I felt in this case the conversation crossed the line."
Chairman of the Petone Rugby Club, Wayne Smith, also refused to comment.
Filipo was initially discharged without conviction after assaulting two men and two women in Wellington last October.
Police appealed and he was convicted, sentenced to nine months supervision, ordered to pay $1000 reparation and attend alcohol counselling.
Wellington Rugby terminated his contract.
