New Zealand finished eighth in the women's team table tennis competition yesterday.
They played off against Wales for seventh and eighth after they lost 2-3 to Malaysia in the morning.
Coach Li Chunli rested her sister Karen Li for the Wales game, which New Zealand lost 3-0.
Li had been in good form throughout the competition. Sophie Shu lost in straight sets to Naomi Owen 5-11, 5-11, 4-11; Annie Yang was beaten 9-11, 8-11, 11-5, 5-11 by Bethan Daunton, and Jenny Hung went down to Siwan Davies 5-11, 10-12, 11-9, 12-10, 4-11.
New Zealand won the bronze medal in Manchester four years ago.
In the men's competition, New Zealand beat Guyana 3-0 to go into a play-off for ninth and 10th against Northern Ireland.
