Helen Norfolk has broken a long standing national swim record to spark the opening night of the national spring short course championships in Dunedin.
Norfolk won the 400 metres freestyle final, breaking the 12-year-old record held by Philippa Langrell.
The North Shore swimmer clocked 4:07.71, nearly half a second off Langrell?s previous mark.
Many of New Zealand's Commonwealth Games team were to the fore on the opening night of finals at Moana Pool with Hannah McLean, Moss Burmester, Annabelle Carey, Glenn Snyders and Corney Swanepoel all collecting open titles.
