Triple Olympic gold medalist Stephanie Rice is withdrawing from the Commonwealth Games and the current Pan Pacific swimming championships because of her shoulder injury.
Rice is about to hold a press conference at the PanPacs in Irvine, California to announce her withdrawal from the event and unavailability for the Games in New Delhi in October.
She failed to qualify in her opening heat at the Panpacs, the 50m butterfly, on Wednesday (Thursday AEST).
The Beijung Olympics star has been struggling with an inflamed bursa in her shoulder and it's believed she will need to undergo surgery.
