Auckland distance runner Kim Smith has been added to the athletics team for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games with the New Zealand Olympic Committee's second wave of announcements yesterday.
Smith will contest the marathon at her first Commonwealth Games after competing at three Olympic Games in Athens, Beijing and London. She joins the 11 athletes named last month.
The Providence-based 32-year-old athlete holds every New Zealand record from 3000m to the marathon and finished 15th in the London 2012 Olympic Marathon in 2h 26min 59s.
She has a personal best time for the event of 2:25.21, the New Zealand record.
A women's 4 x 400m team has been selected. The team ran the qualifying time at a special attempt in Hamilton over Easter. It is the first athletics relay team selected for a major championship since the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006. The individual athletes in the relay squad will be announced later.
