The Silver Ferns are trying not to get caught up in the hype of the Commonwealth Games.
The team heads across the Tasman today, but the players will be staying in Waverley, Victoria for a week of final preparations.
Captain Adine Wilson said they are deliberately keeping out of the Melbourne environment for as long as they can, given it is a three week long campaign.
Wilson said they will not shift into the athletes' village until just before the opening ceremony.
The New Zealand A side is travelling with the Ferns, so they can keep up their match play, and will also play the Australian Institute of Sport side.
