While they are not expected to challenge the Silver Ferns this week, Jamaica are set to be a key threat at the Commonwealth Games with the confirmation 1.93m shooter Carla Borrego is likely to be in the squad for Delhi.
Borrego, who returned to netball only this season after spending six years playing college basketball in the United States, was a stand-out for the championship-winning Adelaide Thunderbirds this season.
But there were mixed messages on whether Borrego would ever return to the Jamaican national side with the 26-year-old reportedly considering seeking Australian citizenship.
Despite initially not appearing interested in playing for Jamaica again, it seems Borrego has had a change of heart.
Jamaica coach Connie Francis said she was confident Borrego would be joining the team for next month's series against England.
"I think she is back into the squad, that's the last thing I heard - so she will add more venom," said Francis.
"She should be playing in the England series and she should be in Delhi - it will be a trial match for all of the girls."
The return of Borrego would set up some interesting selection dilemmas for Francis, who will be faced with the tough decision of which one of her star shooters to leave out of the starting line-up.
Romelda Aiken - the tallest shooter in world netball - has been the linchpin in the Jamaican attack end for the past few years, but the more athletic Borrego has had a huge impact in the transtasman league.
Aiken has said she plans on fighting hard for her spot.
"No one wants anyone to come in and just take their position, so it's just a matter of me concentrating on my game and what I do best and ensuring I keep improving."
