The final athletes' roll call is 3863, fewer than the 4000 originally estimated to compete, but still the largest number in the history of the Games.
No-shows have reduced the fields in some sports. Today's track and field programme at the City of Manchester Stadium has been restricted because low entries meant some heats were not needed.
Organisers have contacted spectators and refunded them for tickets purchased.
