New Zealand have been bundled out of the women's table tennis teams event, beaten 2-3 by Malaysia in the quarterfinals.
Annie Yang could not hold Malaysian No 1 Sock Khim Ng in the vital third rubber, losing 5-11, 5-11, 6-11.
Yang had fought back to level the scores at 5-5 in the final game, but could not maintain the pressure, eventually falling to a forehand winner.
Coach Li Chunli told NZPA it had been a difficult assignment for Yang, as Ng was a very quick player with an unusual style.
New Zealand had led the tie 2-1, but their No 1 Karen Li lost her first match of the tournament, then Ng overpowered Yang.
The Malaysians, who were overjoyed with their comeback win, now play Singapore in the semifinals.
New Zealand play Nigeria tomorrow in the first match to decide placings from fifth to eighth.
