It's not often you see the brilliant Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt moving backwards at pace, but that's what he has been doing over the past few days as he tries to distance himself from comments he's supposed to have made.
A Times journalist reported Bolt said the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow are "a bit shit" and the Olympics are better. He says he said nothing of the sort; the Times has posted a transcript the reporter took down in shorthand.
Whatever. The Games have been a hit for our Kiwi team.
From our cycling team's success, to superstar flag-bearer Val Adams claiming gold and the 600th Commonwealth Games medal, to the discovery of sporting talent I never knew existed in New Zealand, I've loved the Games. Nothing like a bit of feel-good factor in the middle of winter.
The opening ceremony may have been a bit like a school production, but the Scottie dogs saved the day and there's no doubt the Glaswegians produced a well-run event that has retained the character of the city. The Kiwi team has produced results that will make this a Games to remember - for all the right reasons.
